Competition Rules

The competition is only open to OIA members who are full-time or part-time imagers or screeners.  Entries from non-members will be automatically disqualified.

Three submissions per category per entrant are allowed. All images submitted should be clearly labelled with the category for which it is to be considered. Entries used in previous years or at any other competition cannot be submitted. All submissions must be electronic, of png or jpeg/jpg format with a minimum resolution of 300dpi but no larger than 12mb. All submissions will be judged on the image quality, and the photographer's skillset, difficulty, overall quality and complexity taken into account, rather than the rarity of the pathology.

There should be no patient identifiable information on the image, and it is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure they have obtained the relevant consent and permission, which includes for example, but is not limited to the patient’s consent, to use images submitted. You should follow your Trust’s local policy on the use of patient data.  An explanation should be given to the patient on how the images will be used. A copy of consent and permission should be kept by the entrant on file indefinitely. The entrant grants OIA and Topcon a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-license the competition entry and accompanying materials for such purposes.

The Prizes

The Overall winner is to receive an official OIA and Topcon Certificate and up to £1,500.00 towards the prize trip. There is no cash alternative for any prize.

The winner will ensure that they are available to travel on the above dates and have the necessary documentation, such as passport, visa etc, and are obtained at the entrants own cost and is required to organise their trip and claim back the costs from Topcon GB Medical. The winner agrees to be contacted directly by Topcon.

Publicity

Overall winner is required to give feedback on their prize experience. In a format which can include web article, photos, essay, poster, presentation or report decided in discussion with the overall winner, OIA and Topcon.

Winners agree that OIA and/or Topcon may use their image, along with their name, place of work, and county of residence to announce the winners of this competition and for any reasonable and related promotional purposes thereafter.

The list of winners will be available to be viewed after the OIA Conference, on the OIA website.

Limitation of Liability

Neither OIA nor Topcon will:

accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in  transit  regardless of  cause,  including,  for  example, technical malfunction, systems, network, server, computer hardware or software failure.

insofar as permitted by law,  in  any  circumstances  be responsible or liable to compensate any winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is  caused  by  OIA’s  or  Topcon’s  negligence.  The winner’s statutory rights are not affected.

Categories

FFA/ICG: A sequence of up to 6 images can be presented or a single photographic montage of the retina, choroid or iris can also be submitted.

Posterior Segment: Entries should include vitreous, retina, optic disc and/or choroid. Multiple images composed as a montage and OCT/OCT-A are allowed.

Ophthalmic Related: Entries may include images of clinical conditions of the eye involving the outside of the eye or other appropriate anatomy, ophthalmic/imaging equipment or the clinical environment.

Anterior Segment: Entries should include the Orbit, Lids, Sclera, Cornea, anterior chamber, Iris and/or Lens. Multiple images composed as a montage and OCT/OCT-A are allowed.

All entries should have patient consent for publication T’s & C’s apply

Entries from equipment manufacturers, suppliers and Judges are not permitted

 

Competition Guidelines
